my fear is wrapped around your neck
scalding waters burn through your skin
as a frigid blizzard blows mine away,
leaving me alone on the edge
of the cliff that hangs over your heart.
shall i plunge into the unknown depths?
and let my weary soul free fall?
faster faster now as i lean toward the edge.
my heart beats, not knowing when
the last breath will be taken.
still you lay, no doubts, no fears.
still you lay, and i stand over you
with too many thoughts to voice.
but for now i suppose,
i shall keep your ring wrapped around
my questioning finger.
